Sequential Arts is the art of visual storytelling where image and narrative combine to create something neither can achieve alone. It's a discipline that has shaped the way stories are told across cultures and generations.
Sequential Arts spans the full spectrum of visual storytelling formats from graphic novels and comic books to manga, manhwa, storyboarding, and concept design. It explores how panels, pacing, composition, and character work together to carry a narrative forward across a page or screen.
The major builds both a creative and technical foundation covering illustration technique, figure drawing, digital art, visual composition, color theory, and animation principles. These are the core skills that separate a storyteller with vision from one with the tools to execute it.
Sequential Arts bridges traditional storytelling with modern visual media and that bridge is exactly where Manhwa and Web-Novel authorship lives. The ability to think in panels, design worlds visually, and pace a narrative makes this major the ideal launchpad for the kind of work I want to create.
Manhwa is a style of comics and graphic novels originating in Korea. While similar to Japanese manga in format and storytelling, Manhwa is distinguished by its fully digital creation process — artwork is produced and distributed digitally rather than by hand.
Manhwa's digital-first nature aligns perfectly with my Sequential Arts major, combining my passion for visual storytelling with modern digital art techniques and tools.
My primary goal is to become a published Manhwa artist and author — creating original stories, building a readership, and bringing my own worlds and characters to life through the medium.
Alongside my visual artistry, I have a strong desire to craft compelling written narratives as a Web-Novel author — telling stories through words as powerfully as through images.
Web-novels allow for deep world-building, complex character arcs, and expansive storylines that complement the visual storytelling of Manhwa.
Web-novels thrive on platforms where readers engage chapter by chapter, building community and readership organically over time.
Pursuing both Manhwa and Web-Novel authorship lets me express stories visually and in prose — two powerful, complementary formats.
My goal is to create fully original intellectual properties — stories, characters, and universes that are entirely my own vision.
My creative journey has been building steadily since middle school — each stage developing new skills and moving closer to professional publication.
Began experimenting with comic book creation alongside friends in middle school
Developed collaborative storytelling skills through co-created comics and narratives
Started planning and writing two distinct original stories in junior year of high school
Continued developing both stories with plans for copyright and professional publication
Pursuing Sequential Arts degree to sharpen craft and build a professional foundation
Every story started, every comic page drawn, has been preparation for a professional creative career.
Since junior year of high school, I have been actively planning and writing two separate stories — each with their own unique worlds, characters, and narratives.
Both stories are being developed with the intent to copyright and publish them, establishing them as fully protected original intellectual properties.
My Sequential Arts training informs how these stories are structured — with pacing, panels, and visual composition guiding every page.
These works represent the foundation of a creative career — original stories that can grow into series, adaptations, and a lasting body of work.
